Not great news

I debated about posting this on my blog but I figure I might as well. We had a perinatal (high risk) doctor appointment and found that our little guy is now in the 5th percentile for growth. This means he was officially diagnosed with IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Restriction) and will now be heavily monitored until birth. We have non stress tests done twice a week and growth ultrasounds done once per week. At this time the doctors want to continue monitoring him but if he does not continue to grow at a somewhat acceptable rate they will deliver him (probably by c-section) so he can grow. At this time his cord, the amniotic fluid, and the placenta look good, but if hes not growing right there must be a reason. He is weighing in at about 4 pounds 5 ounces right now which means he hasn't even gained a full pound in an entire month.

On a lighter note, they switched the machine to 3D/4D and we got to see his little face. Unfortunately, he sleeps like his daddy and had his arm thrown up over half of his face. From what we could see he has my super chubby cheeks and Justin's nose and mouth. OH! And he has hair...Justin did have hair til he was like two so its good to know our little guy will be born with some.

This is all very, very scary for us but I am really happy to know that we will have this extensive monitoring done and he will be delivered immediately if we find out hes not getting what he needs to survive in me. The nursery is still not done because I am having to take it really easy but its SO close. I will keep you updated!

Update

I haven't been blogging a whole lot lately but I should be! Some things that have occurred since my last post:

1.) Our baby shower. We got SO much stuff and are now fully prepared for the baby with the exception of a few odds and ends we probably wont buy til after hes here. We have all the big ticket items, like a travel system, pack n play, high chair, breast pump, glider, crib, dresser, etc. My concern (until the shower) was all of the little things we needed and our friends and family totally came through. We love you guys. It was also SO great to have my sisters (Ericka and Mitra) and my step mom fly in from Utah, and my mom come home for the weekend. I realized that night after we were all relaxing that I did not take even one photo...so, so sad. =(

2.) My big sister's 30th birthday yesterday!! Happy birthday Ericka!!!

3.) I am off of work now until the baby is 12 weeks old. Woo hoo!!

4.) Avah has been doing excellent in school this week. Next week is spring break and I have no idea how I am going to fill the time for her. It makes me incredibly sad to think she is 6 years old and this is the very first time she will be home all week for spring break. None the less, I'd like to make it a fun one for her, although I am unable to actually move around a whole lot, doctors orders. I'm sure I will be able to come up with some ideas, though!

5.) The nursery is ALMOST completed. I still need to paint and hang the letters for his name (which I haven't posted on this blog and wont until he is born), buy the vinyl tree decal for the wall behind the crib, buy and hang a shelf,  move the rug and glider from the garage and into the room, buy an end table for next to the glider, hang the pictures Avah painted, and replace the closet doors. Sounds like a LOT, but its really only about 30 minutes of work (besides the closet doors).

I SWEAR I will post pictures soon. Possibly later today.

Pregnancy 34th week

On my What to Expect app it says this week the baby is a pineapple! The Bump does its fruit and veggie comparisons a little differently, but its still interesting!

What's new this week? Your baby is clocking in at five pounds and could be as tall as 20 inches by now, and the vernix (the white coating protecting your baby’s skin) is getting thicker. This week, a boy's testicles start making their way down from his abdomen to their final destination: his scrotum (look out below!). While about three to four percent of boys are born with undescended testicles, it's nothing to worry about — they usually head downtown before junior turns a year old. In other baby-related developments, those tiny fingernails have probably reached the tips of his fingers by now — and getting ready for that first postpartum manicure.
